Jam-Packed August Weekend!

Posted by Derek Mann on 2018/08/10

If you’re one of the few people not lucky enough to be going to Boots and Hearts this weekend and are trying to find something to do, I’ve got the run down for you!

On Saturday I’ll be starting my weekend off out in Uxbridge for a Day out with Thomas! Yes, I am referring to Thomas the Tank Engine himself! The Day out with Thomas – The Big Adventures Tour is in the middle of its 42 stop tour around North America and this weekend it’s stopping at the York-Durham Heritage Railway! It’s only $25 per person to have your very own train ride with a talking Thomas the Tank Engine. You’ll also be able to meet Sir Topham Hatt and join in on a variety of Thomas & Friends activities!

Next, I’ll be heading just a little ways down the road to the Northequest Canine & Sport Training Facility for the first ever North American Diving Dogs Competition in the Toronto and GTA area!  They have a variety of different distance jumping and air retrieve competitions for the dogs; they even have a “try-it” spot where you can bring your own dogs to try some of the competition tricks for themselves!

I’ll be spending the rest of my day at Taste of the Danforth in Toronto’s Greektown! Bring on the Tzatziki! In their 25th year of Canada’s largest street festival you can expect to enjoy delicious Greek food from over 150 different vendors, as well as free entertainment and fun for the whole family!

On Sunday I’ll be heading to the Port Union Waterfront Park to start the day off for a Walk in the 6 for SickKids! Although I will miss the 5KM walk along the waterfront trail, I’ll be hanging out as the walkers return for snacks and the promotional draws going on!

Next, I’ll be heading over to Markham District High School to promote the Ride for Karen! Cyclists from all across Ontario will be spreading awareness and raising funds to send kids with cancer to camp. It’s a great cause to get behind and even if you’re not participating in the ride you can come out between 2:00PM-5:00PM for the BBQ and make a donation while you’re there.

I’ll be finishing off my weekend in the absolute best way possible at the Pickering Food Truck Festival! It’s happening at Esplanade Park where the park will be transformed into a foodie-haven, complete with a children’s village, beer garden, and live entertainment. Best of all its completely free to get in!

Hope I get a chance to see you out there this weekend! If you see me on location come and say hello! I can always get you signed up for a KX96 Winsticker at any time as well!
