Kenny Chesney Saved Dogs After the Hurricane and Said Goodbye to His Own

After Hurricane Irma hit the Virgin Islands in September 2017, Kenny Chesney teamed up with Big Dog Ranch and Rescue and Victory Air. Together they were able to save 1400 dogs from animal shelters across the islands and sent them to North America, where they would be able to find loving homes. At the same time that he was helping, Kenny's dog Cookie passed away just days after the storm hit. She was 18, so Kenny says it was "timing more than anything", but said that she was a big part of his life. "On my next trip down to St. John we took her ashes and said goodbye and scattered them in the ocean," Kenny says. "I didn't want her to be buried anywhere else. I wanted her to be a part of the fabric of where she lived her whole life."
