Here is how Carrie Underwood's latest song, 'Drinking Alone', came to be. The first thing is she met up with David Garcia who had worked with FGL on 'Meant to Be'. Carrie says that's what convinced her to try and work with him. She says they have stuff in common. “We’re the same age. I mean, we kind of grew up at the same time and have a lot in common as far as personality, and he’s such a great music guy and track guy, and I feel like I’m better at melody and lyrics. We just kind of filled in each other’s gaps musically." Once they got together the goal was to try a sound that Carrie hadn't pursued before. She had the idea for the song and although they listened to some others they kept coming back to the original. Once they focused on it, 'Drinking Alone' came together quickly. Interestingly the "ooh, ooh, ooh' that you hear Carrie sing at the beginning and the end of the song was improvised. They were recording the demo and she tossed that in for fun and everyone loved it so they left it in.
