Mike Eli of Eli/Young Band is a big fan of Christmas. However, there is one thing he says he'd like to see less of at this time of year. That something is glitter. Mike says, "When glitter starts floating around, I kinda give a little eye roll to Christmas. Because that is the only thing that I don't like about Christmas. I live in a house full of girls and that's just one of those things that is a part of the holidays."
It's not unusual for a guitarist to name his or her guitar. Lengendary blues guy B.B. King named each of his guitars 'Lucille'. Keith Urban was recently talking about his favourite Christmas movies and they included "A Christmas Story", "A Charlie Brown Christmas", and "It's A Wonderful Life". In fact Keith says, "One of my main guitars is named 'Clarence', and it's named after the angel in "It's A Wonderful Life"".
This February American Idol will be back for another season. In fact auditions in various cities have already started. Luke Bryan is back as one of the judges and he was asked if, when he was 20 or so and he had auditioned for American Idol, would he have made it through. Luke says he's not so sure. He says, "I think I may have charmed them with a goofy grin or something, but I don't know."
For the past two or three weeks KX96 has been sending people off to Cuba for a little warmth during the winter. It seems the guys in Florida Georgia Line have been thinking along the same lines. Tyler and Hayley Hubbard along with Brian and Brittney Kelley are currently hanging out in the Virgin Islands. Considering that this year alone they have released "Can't Say I Ain't Country" toured, started their own record label, and have headed back into the studio, a little sun and relaxation before 2020 arrives sounds like a pretty good plan.
Here is how Carrie Underwood's latest song, 'Drinking Alone', came to be. The first thing is she met up with David Garcia who had worked with FGL on 'Meant to Be'. Carrie says that's what convinced her to try and work with him. She says they have stuff in common. “We’re the same age. I mean, we kind of grew up at the same time and have a lot in common as far as personality, and he’s such a great music guy and track guy, and I feel like I’m better at melody and lyrics. We just kind of filled in each other’s gaps musically." Once they got together the goal was to try a sound that Carrie hadn't pursued before. She had the idea for the song and although they listened to some others they kept coming back to the original. Once they focused on it, 'Drinking Alone' came together quickly. Interestingly the "ooh, ooh, ooh' that you hear Carrie sing at the beginning and the end of the song was improvised. They were recording the demo and she tossed that in for fun and everyone loved it so they left it in.
Congratulations to Jason Aldean. His latest album, "9", has hit number one on the country charts. It's his 7th album to reach the top. It did pretty well on the all genre chart too, reaching #2.
You may have heard that Maren Morris found out she was pregnant while on her way to a songwriting session with three other women who are known as The Love Junkies. They are Hilary Lindsay, Lori McKenna and Liz Rose and, for example, they wrote Little Big Town's 'Girl Crush'. Anyway, on the way to the session Maren told husband, Ryan Hurd, but after that the Love Junkies were the first to hear the news. Maren says they were pretty excited for her and they are all Moms too. So, as you might expect, they wrote a song to commemorate the news. The question is will that song ever see the light of day. Maren says, "I don't know, it might end up on the new record. Who knows?"
