    Whitby 55+ Recreation Services provides programs for adults age 55+ to learn new skills, access resources and make connections. Choose from a variety of activities, including fitness programs, social opportunities, seminars and more. At 55+ Recreation, our purpose is to enhance the quality of life for people 55 and older through recreational programs, classes, services and volunteer opportunities. Benefits of membership include:

    - A variety of drop-in recreation programs such as Bingo, Cards, Darts and Scrabble,

    - Reasonably priced, adult 55+ focused courses in fitness, creative arts, dance, computers, and general interest programs,

    - Wellness and lifestyle programs,

    - Special events throughout the year,

    - Mingles, the on-site cafe with hot meals for purchase,

    - Discounted health club membership at the Whitby Civic Recreation Complex for members 60 years and older,

    - Discounted rates for Aquafit programs,

    - Lounge with computers and printers, lending library of books and puzzles, all free for use,

    - 55+ Recreation newsletters and weekly emails with up-to-date local information, and

    - Volunteer opportunities.

    You do not need to be a resident of Whitby to join us!  Memberships are available for both Whitby residents and non-residents as long as you qualify by being at least 55 years old.

  • 14th Annual Orono Antique Street Festival
    Mark your calendar for Saturday, August 12th, 2023 as the 14th Annual Orono Antique Street Festival will be held on Main Street, Orono. This is a free admission event and is held between 10am to 4pm, rain or shine.
    On August 12th, Main Street in downtown Orono will be closed to traffic between 10am and 4pm to showcase the 14th Annual Orono Antique Street Festival. Residents and visitors alike will be treated to a great selection of antiques, collectables, vintage finds, furniture, toys, books, jewellery, art, and so much more in this one day event.
    25 plus independent new and returning Antique Dealers, who will be displaying their antiques and collectables on the street that day. She also stated that, in addition, the local antique shops of Orono, which include the Orono Antique Market and Main Thru Church Antique Mall, will all be open for business with great in-store specials to celebrate this event. These two independent antique shops collectively represent approximately 11,000 sq ft of antique and vintage items and are host to 25-30 antique dealers year-round.
    Orono has become quite the destination for Antique and Vintage shoppers.
    Once festival goers have worked up an appetite they can grab a bite to eat at one of Orono’s local restaurants or outdoor food venues and enjoy music from our live entertainment.
    Orono is located just off Hwy115, 6 minutes north of the 401 or 7 minutes south of the 407.

  • Summer Union Cemetery Tours
    The Oshawa Museum is proud to continue its partnership with Oshawa Union Cemetery in offering monthly cemetery tours May through August.
     
    Join the Oshawa Museum on the second Saturday afternoon in May, June, July and August to tour through Oshawa’s largest cemetery, Union Cemetery. Each month, a different section or theme will be explored; Oshawa Museum guides share stories of well-known citizens and of everyday people who made Oshawa the community it is. The tours begin at 2pm at the front gates of Union Cemetery.
     
    Cost: $5/person or free for members of the Oshawa Historical Society.
    This tour runs rain or shine!
    It is recommended that participants park at the nearby Oshawa Civic Recreation Complex (99 Thornton Road South) as parking at Union Cemetery is very limited (5 minute walk)
