Ella Langley's "Choosin' Texas" was inspired partially by a baby kangaroo.
The song was written by Ella, Miranda Lambert, Joy Beth Taylor and Luke Dick. It came out of a writer's retreat, where they will typically share stories and lines that they've been working on. Miranda Lambert had a really interesting tale that she wanted to tell. One time she was driving along a dirt road with a baby kangaroo in the back seat and her dog in the passenger seat. Miranda was pulled over, and when the officer noticed the Texas plates on her vehicle after seeing everything that was going on in the car, she said, "Well she's from Texas I can tell." That one line became the hook for the whole song. Ella came up with the melody on the way to the bathroom and the song was created in about 30 minutes. No word on why Miranda Lambert had a baby kangaroo in the back seat of her car.
